I
was born the 11th July of 1973 in the city
of Mitilini from my father, Dimitrios Kenteris
and my mother Chrysoula Kenteri. I studied
in the Lyceum of Mitilini and then in the
Department of Physical Education & Sports
Science of A.U.Th..
I got into sports in 1983 in the Arionas
Mitilini Club, strongly motivated by my
family. Specifically, I followed my brothers
steps: my brother was an athlete in javelin
and my sister in 100 m. obstacles. My first
atheltic contest was the broad jump where
my first successes came in a local level.
During this time I met Grigoris Kontos who
was my first trainer and following his advices
I changed game. Thus I began exercixing
myself in the 200 and 400 m.
In September 1992 I moved to Thessalonica
for studies and began to exercise with Ploutarchos
Saraslanidis. My first big discrimination
with P. Saraslanidis was my 1st place in
the Mediterranean Games of 1993 in the 400
m. race with a time of 45,70 which was a
new national record.
Since spring of 2000 I exercise in Athens
with Chris Tzekos and I am a member of the
Olympic Piraeus team.
My main hobbies are the reading and the
cinema. I also like anything that has to
do with children and therefore I am a member
of UNICEF for the last 4 years. I have been
a member of the Athletic Organism of the
Municipality of Mitilini and a member of
the M.B. of the Association of Greek Champions
(S.E.P.) as a representative of the athletes
of North Greece.
Since 1989 that I achieved my first victory
in national games in the 400 m. I have never
lost from a Greek athlete in the 400m race.
I am currently the owner of 4 national records,
one in the category of youth in the 200m.
(21.05, 1992) one in the category of men
in 400 m. closed field (46.73, 1994) and
two in 400 m. open fields (45.60, 1998)
and 200m. (19.85, 2002).
